Marcus Aurelius was a Roman Emperor who ruled from 160 – 180 AD. His inspiration was the Stoic philosopher Epictetus, who believed that philosophy should be implemented in everyday life.  Marcus Aurelius was known as the philosopher king, using his Stoic philosophy to act virtuously and to keep calm during times of war. The Emperor’s philosophy can be found in a collection of his writings called the ‘Meditations’.
